The Teen Ensemble
Teen Show Spotlight
BCT artists Isis Bruno, Mars Storm Rucker, and Maclaine Bolden worked with an ensemble of teens to devise an original piece over a 15-week process. Led by Rucker's original music, the ensemble wove together Shakespearean text, clowning, and original writing to examine power. The result was EMPOWERLAND.

“
My son came to BCT at 7, with a big imagination but real struggles with reading that his schools were slow to see. BCT became his respite. I still remember his first production — kids in masks, just post-pandemic — and I cried the entire time. There was my little guy in all his power, making the audience laugh. I can't do justice to the BCT magic in words, but it's undeniable — it's something you feel with your whole heart. Years on, he looks to the future secure in who he is, because his limitations have never defined him.
